Carpet cleaning, carried out in your home.

The work

Some carpets should come to us, and some should be cleaned where they lie. Fitted wall-to-wall carpet, large installed pieces and everyday rugs that are awkward to move are all cleaned in your home, with the same care we bring to the workshop. We work in apartments, townhouses and houses across New York City and Long Island, and we are used to building rules, freight elevators and providing proof of insurance where a building asks for it.

Every visit starts the same way: we look at the carpet, front and back where we can, test the dyes and the fiber, and tell you honestly what cleaning will and will not do. If a piece turns out to be hand-knotted, silk, or old enough to deserve the workshop, we say so and arrange to take it in instead. In-home cleaning is for carpets that are suited to it, not a shortcut for pieces that are not.

Where the work is done depends on the piece and what it needs. Cleaning, repair and restoration are carried out at our Williston Park workshop or in your home, and our Greenpoint studio in Brooklyn is there for city clients to bring a piece in and meet us.

  • Everyday area rugs

Cleaned at home or taken in, whichever suits the piece.

If a rug belongs in the workshop, we tell you.

How an in-home cleaning goes.

The process

First, we assess. You send photographs or we visit, and you receive a written estimate before any work is agreed. On the day, we walk the rooms with you, note stains, wear and anything fragile, and confirm the price before we begin.

Dry soil comes out first, because most of what dulls a carpet is grit, and washing over grit only drives it deeper. Then the carpet is cleaned with a method chosen for its fiber and construction, tested in an inconspicuous spot before it is used across the room. Stains are treated individually; some respond fully, some improve, and we tell you which is which beforehand.

Hot-water extraction is an option when suited to the carpet. We choose the cleaning method after assessing its fiber and construction.

Finally the pile is groomed and the carpet is left to dry properly, with advice on ventilation and when furniture can go back. You are left with a written record of what was done.

  • 1. Assessment

Photographs or a visit, then a written estimate.

  • 2. Dry soil removal

Grit out before any water goes in.

  • 3. Tested cleaning

A hidden spot first, the room only when it is safe.

  • 4. Stain treatment

Each stain treated on its own merits.

  • 5. Grooming and drying

Pile set, drying advice, written record.

Good to know

Written estimate within one business day. In-home cleaning is quoted by the room or by the square foot after we know what we are dealing with, and the price is confirmed in writing before work begins. Our pricing page explains how a figure is reached.

Before we arrive, we ask that small items, breakables and anything precious are cleared from the rooms. Larger furniture can be discussed when we assess; some pieces we work around, some we move, and we agree it with you in advance.

Workshop rug cleaning only: if a rug needs to be taken to our Williston Park workshop, pickup and delivery are free. Workshop rug cleaning takes about two weeks on average; every rug is different, and any repairs needed will extend that time. This timing does not apply to in-home carpet cleaning, which is usually completed in one visit followed by drying time.

Frequently asked.

Questions

Which carpets can be cleaned in my home?
Fitted wall-to-wall carpet, large installed pieces and most everyday rugs. Antique, hand-knotted and silk pieces are usually better treated at our Williston Park workshop, and we will tell you plainly if that is the case.
How long does an in-home cleaning take?
Most homes are finished in a single visit. Drying takes several hours depending on the carpet and the weather, and we leave you with clear advice on ventilation and when furniture can go back.
Do I need to move furniture before you arrive?
We ask that small items and breakables are cleared. Larger furniture is discussed at the assessment: some pieces we work around, some we move, and it is all agreed before the day.
