What rug care costs.
We would rather explain how a price is reached than publish a single number that fits no rug in particular. Here is how we quote, the ranges most work falls within, and what moves a figure up or down.

How we price
Cleaning is priced by the square foot. The rate reflects the construction and fiber of the rug, because a hand-knotted wool carpet, a silk piece and a machine-made rug each need a different wash, a different drying time and a different amount of handwork afterwards.
Restoration and conservation are priced after assessment. No two losses are alike, and the honest way to quote a repair is to look at it first: how much of the foundation has gone, whether the dyes will hold, and how far the damage has traveled beneath the surface.

What affects the price.
Variables
Four things account for most of the difference between one quote and another. We explain each of them in writing, so you can see exactly where the cost lies.
Size
Larger rugs take longer to wash, rinse and dry flat, and need more handling.
Fiber
Silk, wool-silk and fine wool require slower, gentler methods than coarse wool or cotton.
Condition
Moth damage, dry rot, old repairs and heavy soiling all add bench time.
Dye stability
Fugitive dyes must be tested and set before washing, and sometimes dictate a different approach altogether.

Our commitment
Every job is quoted in writing before we begin. If we find something during treatment that changes the picture, a hidden repair, a weakness in the foundation, we stop, photograph it, and speak to you before going further. You will never receive a bill for work you did not agree to.
Pickup and delivery are free. Workshop rug cleaning takes about two weeks on average; every rug is different, and any repairs needed will extend that time.
