The Bronx holds a great many rugs that have been in the same family for decades: Persian and Caucasian carpets carried over by earlier generations, Chinese deco rugs in prewar apartments, and good wool rugs in the large houses of Riverdale and Fieldston. Most arrive with years of soil packed into the foundation and a little wear along the edges.

Every piece begins with photographs and a written condition report, so you can see what we propose before any work starts. Cleaning is done by hand, with every color tested first, and repairs are made in matched wool so they sit quietly in the design.

Prewar buildings bring their own logistics, from narrow stairs to managing agents who ask for insurance paperwork. We plan for all of it before the visit, so collection day is simple.

Where the work is done depends on the piece and what it needs. Cleaning, repair and restoration are carried out at our Williston Park workshop or in your home, and our Greenpoint studio in Brooklyn is there for city clients to bring a piece in and meet us.

Workshop rug cleaning takes about two weeks on average; every rug is different, and any repairs needed will extend that time.
