The Hamptons
Rug care for East End houses.
Summer houses ask a lot of their rugs: sand from the beach, damp sea air, bright light through tall windows, and long months shut up in between. We look after them through the seasons.
Care carried out on your doorstep.
Local service
Rugs in the Hamptons wear in their own way. Fine sand tracked in from the beach settles into the foundation, where it acts like sandpaper on the base of the pile. Salt air and closed-up winter months can leave a musty smell and, in the worst cases, mildew. Sunlight through large windows fades colors unevenly across the field.
A careful hand wash removes the sand and the salt, and we check each rug afterwards for any weakness in the foundation that grit and damp may have caused. Faded areas are assessed honestly; some can be improved, others are simply part of a rug's history.
Many East End clients use us to clean and store rugs over the winter, returning them clean, repaired where needed, and ready for the season.
Where the work is done depends on the piece and what it needs. Cleaning, repair and restoration are carried out at our Williston Park workshop or in your home, and our Greenpoint studio in Brooklyn is there for city clients to bring a piece in and meet us.
Workshop rug cleaning takes about two weeks on average; every rug is different, and any repairs needed will extend that time.

How collection works here.
Pickup and delivery
Houses on the East End are often opened and closed with the seasons, and rug care fits naturally around that rhythm. We collect in the autumn when a house is closing, clean and repair over the winter, and deliver in spring before it reopens.
Where a house manager or caretaker looks after the property, we are glad to arrange access and delivery with them directly and send photographs of each piece once it is back in place.
Questions from this area.
Questions
- Can you collect in autumn and deliver in spring?
- Yes. Seasonal collection is our most common arrangement on the East End. Rugs are cleaned, repaired as agreed, and stored until the house reopens.
- Do you deal with sand and salt air damage?
- Yes. Sand works deep into the foundation and wears the pile from below, and damp sea air can encourage mildew. A full-immersion wash removes both, and we check for any resulting weakness.
- Can you coordinate with our house manager?
- Of course. We arrange collection and delivery with caretakers and house managers, and send photographs once rugs are delivered and laid.
